Choosing the Right Supination Shoes
The supination shoe is an important gear that every runner should be able to procure for himself. In order for one to realize the importance of choosing and buying the right supination shoes, they then should start by understanding what supination is. When they do, buying supination shoes will certainly be of top concern for them.
Because running is an exercise that is strenuous to the body, it is a must for one to be able to buy the right kind of shoes for his running needs. Now, the question is, how does one choose which shoes to buy? Does he just flip a coin in the air, or close his eyes and buy the one his fingers point to when he stops spinning?
Those of course are erroneous ways of making a choice. One should not just pick any shoe. That is because, if the right one is not selected, you are making yourself prone to foot injury. In order to make the right choice, you need to understand what supination and pronation are. These terms will be greatly useful to you when you are shopping for the ideal running shoe.
What is Supination?
Supination is a term for a muscular action that occurs when running. One perfect example of supination is the launching of a runner. When the heel goes off the ground, there is an outward rolling of the foot. Supination can indeed be very important, however, it is also able to cause damage to the body when it become excessive.
Since these two terms come hand in hand, understanding supination would also mean that you have educated yourself about pronation as well. They are two sides of the same coin. This would mean that, if supination is the outward rolling motion of the foot, then pronation would simply be the inward motion of the foot. When your feet touch the ground either during running or walking, then your foot is in pronation. Just like supination, there are consequences when the body experiences excessive pronation.
Effects of Excessive Supination and Pronation
Too much supination or pronation can lead to a lot of complications. These would include:
- Pain in the foot arch
- Flattening of foot or feet
- Shin splints
- Inflammation of the Achilles tendom
- Hip and back pain
Preventing These Complications
Because these consequences can be very painful and annoying, it is important to prevent them from occurring rather than just wait for treatment. Now how can they be prevented?
Buying supination shoes will help prevent the onset of excessive supination and pronation. Now, when choosing your supination shoes, you should select those that can provide sufficient cushioning and are light for the feet. This would help lessen the impact of your running motions and, with them, pronation and supination.
