Shoe preferences are different for different people and differences like weight, the shape of your feet, your foot size, as well as running motion. The first thing you have to do is measure your foot and find out your foot type. To find out your foot type, get a friend or the salesman to measure your foot while you are standing and then again while you are you're sitting.

  • Some people have no change in the measurement and this means they have a high rigid arch of the foot length of your foot, and are supinate or “don’t stretch out”.
  • If your measurements lengthen out by a quarter of an inch or more when you are standing, you have flat feet that pronate or “stretch out”. These types of feet do require more support and are more prone to injuries.
  • If your measurements come somewhere in between, then you’re feet are considered normal.

Manufacturers make basically three main categories called as cushioned, stability and motion control as well as three minor ones for routine training, racing and off-road training. Usually the first three categories are allotted to everyday activities and different options are available according to foot types. All manufacturers make shoes for these main three foot types.

  • Cushion shoes for high arched feet or supinators. These shoes are designed with extra cushioning for the mid-soles region of feet which do not stretch out while standing. As these soles are curved or semi-curved shaped upward they require more cushioning for the normal running motion.
  • Motion control shoes are for flat feet as the straight shape and a better mid-sole support is necessary for these running shoes to keep feet better aligned.
  • Stability models are designed with a semi-curved shape for normal feet to support and stretch the mid-sole of normal feet.

Tips on how to choose running shoes for your feet!

  • Buy your running shoes from a specialist store and trained sales persons to get the best running shoes.
  • Don’t focus on numerical sizes as most running shoe sizes can be bigger by one size to dress shoes.
  • The front of the shoe has to have enough space for you to wiggle your toes and there should be space between your toes and the tip of the shoes.
  • All manufacturers make the three types of shoes but the price range may vary. So pick one which really suits you not the price.
