Differences between Running Shoes and Trail Running Shoes
Trail running shoes have a few more features which are not available with regular running shoes. As opposed to regular running shoes, these are designed for real trail running and give added protection, shielding the feet against trauma.
Traction is also better, plus materials accommodate water repelling and easy drying.
Though regular running shoes may be used for trail running, this would be impractical at best, if not dangerous. Hiking trails and changing terrains are the usual routes. Narrow paths, sloping hills, curves, rocky paths, sandy paths, muddy and watery paths, and etc; these are to be expected. These running conditions require appropriate foot gear-trail running shoes.
Trail running shoes are most specially designed to protect the feet from mentioned running conditions, giving maximum support, stability, protection, and traction. Though quite rigid, these shoes have sturdy soles that benefit the wearer. The heavy and bulky build should not discourage the trail runner who is more used to wearing regularly designed runner shoes.
Trail running shoes are great for regular track meets as well as cross country events. For maximum usability, trail shoes are often fitted with spikes, most especially in preparation for a race. Spikes for track differ from spikes for cross country. Use spikes if there is really a need for it and if your level of competence can handle that. Spike lessens support so avoid usage in times of injuries or leg and foot problems.
Trail running shoes have outsoles that give added protection. Hills and changing terrains are better handled and the feet are protected from pressures that come from treading on rocky places. These shoes help keep you from falling and slipping on the journey, keeping you from unwanted bodily injuries.
If you run occasionally, itís best to go with regular running shoes. If you are a frequent runner and/or a frequent trail runner, then consider investing in trail running shoes. Run on them or interchange usage with regular running shoes.
If you run on short periods, regular running shoes will do. If you run on long periods and if you tread cross country on longer periods, use trail shoes. Trail shoes have added midsole cushion, needed for uneven grounds.
Purchase shoes which have enough cushioning or purchase additional cushion in case your present gear is lacking or is need of some replacement. Cushion your arches and heels. Besides cushioning, trail running shoes may have water proofing and breathable material features.
Many brands offer trail running shoes, each having set advantages and disadvantages. Most popular trail shoe lines are Nike, Adidas, Merell, The North Face, and Asics. You may want to consult a running shoe expert on the best trail shoes for you. Seek advice of runners as well and get their recommendations. If you are an overpronator, choose shoes that will best control your problem with excessive pronation. Check the way cushions are placed and try the shoes on for fitting before making a purchase. It is best to work within your budget but never sacrifice quality for price. Going for poor gear may cause you a lot of health and medical expenses in the end. So prioritize quality.
