San Diego Rock And Roll Marathon
About San Diego Marathon and its History
All around the world, you can find a lot of competition and opportunities for you to try your luck at achieving personal glory. Each one of them offers unique challenges and difficulties with which you can gauge your progress.
Find out what you can expect in the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon.
There are times that running can be more than just a physical exercise or even a competition for personal glory. There are also times that a race can be used as a charity rather than just a means to achieve fame and show off one’s prowess in running. That is what the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon is all about.
The San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon started out in 1998. It was first handled by the Elite Group. The race was intended to benefit the Elite Racing Foundation for Children, Education and Medical Research. This means that the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon had been existing for quite a while now, providing sums of money for the benefit of the foundation. The only difference is that it is now managed by the Competitor Group instead of the Elite Group as of 2008. Participants from all over the world gather in San Diego for one day, competing against each other.
The San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon also has several similar Rock and Roll Marathons in different areas in the United States. There are, for example, affiliated Rock and Roll Marathons in Nashville, Dallas, Chicago, San Antonio, and Las Vegas.
However, the San Diego marathon is the original or the first marathon to have been organized by the Elite Group.
What to Expect in the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon
One word to describe the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon would be: it’s huge. You can expect a lot of runners to compete against when you join the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. In 2006 alone, there had been a total of over twenty one thousand participants who went to run in the streets for the benefit of the foundation. Not all of course can be expected to finish the marathon, but this would also be a good way to meet your fellow running enthusiasts.
How Long Does the Marathon Last?
The San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon is more than just fun: it is also challenge. First it would start at 6th Avenue at Palm, San Diego. Runners would then have to do it all the way to the San Diego Marine Corps Recruitment Depot. Of course, they are free to drop out if they cannot carry on any more. Everyone has his or her limits after all although it is encouraged to run as far as you can. All in all, the San Diego Marathon requires over 2 hours of running from the competitors.
